Clients don’t come much more venerable than Hahnemühle, a German paper producer founded in 1584 (and featured on Wikipedia’s list of the oldest companies in the world) – so we were thrilled to be invited to provide our digital expertise on their new curatorial project.
Upon Paper celebrates the brand’s ‘close connection with art and form’ via an exhibition space in Berlin, an extra-large format biannual magazine and an online platform. Upon Paper’s remit covers artwork on paper and beyond, from oil painting and illustration to photography and technology, acting as a spotlight for work by a wide range of artists, photographers and designers. We were brought on board by Upon Paper’s Creative and Editorial Director Paul Hetherington, former Creative Director at SHOWstudio and co-founder of Big Active.
Initially, the online platform will serve as a professionally curated source of editorial and graphic content. As the project progresses, we’ll be building in new functionality that introduces a social element to the site, allowing the public to generate and curate content. Submitted work will also be considered for inclusion in editorial features, the print magazine and even the exhibition space.
El Mys bonus historical fact for 1584: On 28th March, Ivan the Terrible died from a stroke while playing a game of chess with Bogdan Belsky.
